- Complaints about government agencies (administrative units of a local, state, federal, or provincial government)
- Complaints about discrimination or violation of similar statutory/constitutional rights
- Complaints seeking criminal penalties or alleging criminal violations
- Cases that are already in or have been resolved by a previous court action, arbitration, or settlement between the parties
- Complaints raising issues concerning the competency of doctors, dentists, licensed therapists, veterinarians, Certified Public Accountants in the U.S. or Chartered Accountants in Canada, and lawyers (However, BBB does accept complaints such as billing disputes or customer service issues)
- Complaints against companies that are out of business
- Collection of payment owed for goods or services provided (BBB cannot act as a collection agency)
- Issues based solely on dissatisfaction of price
- Buyer’s remorse
- Complaints against an individual who is not engaged in business
- Complaints that are not from a person (or a person’s authorized representative) or entity (business-to-business) that had a marketplace relationship with the business
- Complaints that do not indicate a request for BBB assistance
- Anonymously filed complaints
